Travelling to Kea
Kea is reached by ferry from Lavrio port, about a 30-minute taxi ride from Athens International Airport. The crossing takes approximately one hour; tickets can be booked via ferryhopper.com. We recommend renting a car — either at Athens Airport or on arrival at the port — as it is the easiest way to get around the island.
Accommodation
Kea offers a variety of accommodation options, from hotels to private houses available on Booking and Airbnb. Most of the hotels are located either at the port (Korissia) or in Ioulida (the main village, also known as Chora). Alternatively, many lovely houses are available to rent in the area between Ioulida and the wedding venue. We recommend booking accommodation early, as availability on Kea can be limited on weekends. Please let us know if you'd like help or recommendations.
What to do in Kea?
Kea is a hidden gem and remains less touristic than other islands. We recommend staying around 4-5 days to fully enjoy what the island has to offer, among others:
- Ancient footpaths, where many of them lead to the beautiful ruins of Ancient Karthaia.
- Beautiful beaches (most of them accessed via a dirt road): Sykamia, Kampi, Spathi, Xyla, Kalidonychi.
- Recommended restaurants: To steki, Ennea Kores, To Perasma, To Kampi, I strofi tou Mimi, Filippas, Rolandos, Piatsa
- Visit Ioulida (also known as Chora) and enjoy sunset views from above
- For those seeking extra adventure, explore keaterraactive.com. For e-bike and hiking tours, contact Alex at +306970051121 and mention that you are our wedding guests to receive a better rate.
Transport
Taxi from Athens airport to Lavrio: We can refer you to Alexia, who will transfer you at a fixed price of 50 EUR for this journey (max 4 people). You can pre-book her via WhatsApp at +306947309438 2–3 days ahead.
Rent a car/moto in Kea: We recommend Leon Rent a Car in Korissia (port of Kea). You can call +302288021898; ask for Mrs. Dimitra or Anna and mention you are our wedding guests for a better rate.
Other Cycladic islands
Visiting other islands from Kea
Unfortunately, Kea has limited connections with other islands, as most islands are accessed via the Piraeus port. You will either have to go from Lavrio to Piraeus and then take another ferry, or a faster option is to go from Lavrio to the airport and fly to another island (and avoid extremely long and expensive ferry routes).
Mainland and beyond
- The Mani Peninsula in the Peloponnese Region
- The Pelion mountain which offers beautiful villages, hikes and incredible beaches
- Crete
- Archaeological sites: Delphi, Mycenae, Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus
